In this article, Susan L. Bryant raises the subject of how European beauty standards affect Black women. She underlines the extent to which European features are considered to be more attractive, which therefore lowers the self-esteem of everyone who does not possess them. She describes the factors that help with grounding these standards (like e. g. media) and to what psychological outcomes that may lead, including internalised self-hatred. The article emphasises that racial beauty standards are a societal problem that has to be dealt with and should be better addressed, especially in media.
